TYPE OF FLUTE

In today’s rapidly growing online business landscape, corrugated cardboard boxes have become increasingly important. Recognizing this, our corrugated cardboard manufacturing factory has continuously developed and improved packaging solutions. As a result, corrugated cardboard boxes have emerged as the most popular type of paper packaging due to their strength and widespread use in shipping. These boxes are essential for online sellers. However, corrugated cardboard comes in different flute types, each with distinct characteristics. Let’s explore the differences.

Types of Corrugated Flutes

Corrugated cardboard varies in structure, with different flute sizes serving specific purposes. Generally, corrugated cardboard is used to form or assemble packaging boxes for storing and transporting products. There are five standard flute types:

Single Face (2-Ply Corrugated Cardboard)

This type consists of one flat paper sheet laminated with one fluted sheet. It is commonly used as protective wrapping for products or for mounting onto offset-printed boxes.

Single Wall (3-Ply Corrugated Cardboard)

Made of two flat paper sheets with one corrugated sheet sandwiched between them, this type is suitable for medium-weight products or those that do not require extremely high strength. Standard flute types include A, B, C, and E.

Double Wall (5-Ply Corrugated Cardboard)

This structure consists of three flat paper sheets and two corrugated sheets. The outermost flute is typically type B, offering a smooth surface for printing, while the inner flute is type C, providing excellent shock absorption. This type is ideal for heavy or high-protection-requirement products.

Triple Wall (7-Ply Corrugated Cardboard)

Made of four flat paper sheets and three corrugated sheets, this type combines type B flutes for printing with type C and A flutes for superior shock absorption. It is often used as a substitute for wooden crates, offering exceptional strength for extremely heavy or highly protective packaging needs.

Micro Flute (Mini Flute)

Micro flute corrugated cardboard, also known as F-flute and G-flute, features a thickness of just 0.5 – 0.6 mm. It is categorized into six flute types: A, B, C, E, F, and G, based on height. Micro flute cardboard stands out for its smooth surface, ease of forming into packaging, excellent print quality, and superior impact resistance compared to similar materials. Its lightweight and thin structure help reduce shipping costs, while its compactness minimizes storage space and waste. Additionally, it is eco-friendly and recyclable.
