What is molded pulp?
Molded pulp (Pulp Mold) is a type of packaging made from pulp derived from recycled paper scraps or pure pulp. It is molded into desired shapes and forms to create three-dimensional containers or packaging with depth, width, and length. It offers good shock absorption and is often used for packaging a variety of products due to its aesthetic molding. There are two types of molded pulp used for packaging, as follows:
- Pulp from recycled paper scraps: This comes from used paper or unused corrugated product boxes. It undergoes a process to be made into products such as egg trays, paper cup trays, and other types of protective materials.
- Pure pulp: This pulp is produced from softwood and is used to create packaging for goods, food, and beverages, including packaging that can be used in microwave ovens.
Technology Used in Molded Pulp Production
Factories that produce molded pulp packaging, including shock-resistant products, use sustainable and environmentally friendly processes. These facilities maintain high production standards, with a comprehensive process that includes design, mold production for forming the shock-resistant products, and actual manufacturing. They have built trust in their quality for over 16 years, supported by modern production technologies, such as:
- Pulp Molding: The process of molding pulp.
- Recycle Waste: A machine that breaks down and recycles paper scraps.
- Input Waste Paper: Organizing paper scraps according to their type.
- Blended Waste Paper into Pulp: Grinding paper scraps into pulp.
- Sieve the Pulp to Remove Impurities: A process for removing foreign materials from the pulp.
- Transfer to Holding Tank/MI: Adjusting the pulp-to-water ratio in standard tanks.
- Pulp Transferred to Forming Machine: Equipment for resting the pulp during the forming process.
Molded Pulp Product Forms
Molded pulp is a material that is molded and produced into packaging or shock-absorbing materials to prevent product damage. The following are three common forms of molded pulp products produced by Thai Hong factory:
- Green Kraft Paper Box: Packaging made from 100% biodegradable material that is eco-friendly and helps reduce air pollution. It can replace plastic and is a versatile molded pulp material used to create various packaging items like gift boxes, storage boxes, and pencil cases.
- Food and Beverage Packaging Trays: For example, paper trays for cups, which are made from molded pulp. These come in 2-slot and 4-slot varieties and are designed to help prevent spills and are easier to handle. They can also replace plastic and are made from 100% recycled paper.
- Egg Trays: Paper egg trays and boxes are produced from molded pulp. They are lightweight, cost-effective, and can be reused. These trays are suitable for storing Jumbo eggs (sizes 1, 2, 3, and 4) and are commonly used by egg farms, retail businesses, or for export.
Currently, molded pulp products continue to play an essential role in online businesses and storefronts that require packaging to protect products from damage. The packaging types mentioned above are crucial in ensuring the safety and integrity of various goods.
